Hello once again from the Chief Executive Officer For Jingoistic Anti-Stupid Vast Right Wing Conspirators Of West Texas

OPINIONS:

I know this will come as a surprise to many but have noticed that almost every single person in our country has an OPINION. And of course OPINIONS vary based upon many factors. But when an OPINION is based upon pure selfishness, I tend to not place it very high on my list of importance. AND, this should come as no surprise when I reveal the fact that the OPINIONS of many career politicians carry no weight with me.

Down through the years I have made friends with people from all walks of life with varying racial and cultural backgrounds and still greater educational levels. During those years of working in my Father's business and later on after his death running that business I learned that most of the OPINIONS passed on to me by my Father who had less than a high school education were pretty close to being right at all times.

Then after going into law enforcement as a career I learned to value the OPINIONS of many of the senior officers and many of my supervisors.  BUT also during that period of time I also learned that OPINIONS based upon experience were much more valid than opinions based upon simple guess work. I also learned during many of those years that if a police officer... AT ANY LEVEL .... kept up with court decisions and kept up with changes in the laws regarding search and seizure and probable cause, that you could be reasonably successful at your job. Of course that is just my OPINION.

In this morning's edition of the (Sub) Standard Times in the Sports Section there appeared an article written for USA Today Sports by Jarrett Bell sporting the headline:

NFL NEEDS AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN OWNER.

Now I am not real familiar with Jarrett Bell but if this is his OPINION of what is troubling the NFL then I must form the OPINION that he is full of crap.  There are many things wrong with the NFL without a doubt but the skin color of the owners has absolutely nothing to do with an NFL Commissioner who is apparently gutless and has a real problem making logical decisions. AND in my OPINION the NFL Owners, regardless of their race, are also gutless in their apparent inability to get rid of this jerk. AH, but no less an authority than Sean ( P. DIDDY) Combs is supportive of this line of thought and has "Tweeted" that he would like to purchase the Carolina Panthers. Then the article went on to say that Oprah Winfrey had the financial clout to purchase an NFL Franchise should she desire to do so.

Now while I am sure that Oprah Winfrey and several other wealthy black people might be able to afford a franchise, I have to make this personal observation.  Electing a black President was allegedly all it would take to remove all racial matters in the United States.  OK, that happened and racial conflicts increased like we have never seen in the past.  Did our country not have a black President and a black Attorney General when the Ferguson, Missouri lie of, "Hands Up! Don't Shoot! was fed to the American people by a completely biased media?  AND as if that were not enough, we had the riots in Baltimore, Maryland who had a black Mayor and a black Chief Prosecutor and the same Federal Government cast and all of these black politicians did NOTHING to stop the riots and destruction of private property.

SO, in my OPINION, lack of black ownership in the NFL is not the problem facing the league. It is total lack of self control of the players and the refusal of ownership and the league office to enforce their own rules.

WELL FINALLY the Tax Cut Legislation was passed by the Senate and the House WITHOUT ONE SINGLE DEMOCRAT VOTE SUPPORTING the legislation. SO, in my OPINION, the American public is really stupid in placing any confidence whatsoever in the Elected Democrat Career Politicians. And on a further note, I place damn little confidence in the Republican Career Politicians. And some of the big holdups on this legislation in the Senate and the House were created by Republicans as well as Democrats. But as I have said before, there is precious little difference in the two. And in the cases of John McCain, Jeff Flake, Susan Collins, Mark Rubio and a few others there is NO DIFFERENCE. Of course, that is just my OPINION.

And while we are on the subject of federal legislation, let me give you my OPINION on that.  If you have a piece of legislation regarding, healthcare for instance, and amendment dealing with gun control or immigration has no business being attached. So many amendments get passed as they are allowed to be attached to a main piece of legislation having nothing at all to do with that particular amendment. PUT A STOP TO THAT IMMEDIATELY! I remember a few days back when the new tax legislation was being discussed, one of the Republican Senators was holding matters up until something to do with DACA could be attached as an amendment. THAT NEEDS TO CEASE... but of course that is just my OPINION.

I have also formed the OPINION that this special prosecutor stuff needs to come to a halt. The federal agencies responsible for investigating wrongdoings in government should do the investigation and put a stop to this special prosecutor business which generally ends up in a witch hunt and usually ends up in indicting some rather minor figures who may have done nothing wrong involving any degree of intent.

This latest Russian Collusion Investigation apparently has turned up NOTHING on President Trump but tons of stuff on Hillary Clinton, the Democrats, Barack Obama, and the heads of federal bureaus. These special prosecutors and their big investigations end up costing the taxpayers a ton of money and are reasonably useless in the long run. Along with this I heard one FOX News Contributor make this statement;  "The F.B.I. is INCORRUPTIBLE."  REALLY?  While I will agree that the majority of the people in the investigative positions are honest to the core and would not lie in order to obtain certain results, I DO NOT HAVE THE SAME OPINION of the F.B.I. top leadership OR the C.I.A. top leadership or the Former Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper. And while naming names let us throw in James Comey who is the former Director of the F.B.I. along with some of his sidekicks.  Ray Charles was blind but would have seen through Hillary Clinton's games. I guess my point is that my OPINION of the Federal Bureau Heads (past and present) is reasonably low and I damn sure DO NOT hold the OPINION that they are INCORRUPTIBLE.

Almost every day I watch several news programs on the FOX News channel and over the past years have formed the OPINION that it is pretty easy to tell when one of the guests, generally a far left leaning socialist, realizes that he/she is losing the argument that their defense is to talk over the moderator or other guest and never let that person get a word in. I have, on occasion seen a couple of the hosts cut off the microphone so that someone else could be heard. Pay really close attention to one of these liberals when they get caught either in a lie or first realize that they have no valid answer or realize that they are losing the argument and watch what they do. I have also noticed several hosts do the same thing. I seem to remember Megyn Kelly doing this on several occasions but she was not the only one.

I still will continue to form OPINIONS just like everyone else but I hope that I form my OPINIONS based upon Experience; Training; Subject Knowledge;  Trusted Print Material; and What I Personally Observe. And I think many of my OPINIONS along with everyone else's has to recognize our own personal likes and dislikes.

For several years now we have all heard about "NET NEUTRALITY" which was a concept under the legacy of Barrack Hussein Obama. The proponents of "NET NEUTRALITY" claimed that the repeal of this policy would.... 'DESTROY THE INTERNET AND HURT MINORITY GROUPS."

In typical Left Wing/Democrat/Socialist fashion the Obama Administration tried to solve a problem that did not exist. A classic case of government overreach. The most intrusive part of the Obama "NET NEUTRALITY" is that it allowed the federal government to regulate the high speed internet delivery as if it were a utility, like electricity or phone service. Once more, it gave too much regulatory power to the FCC. And while on the subject of the FCC and federal regulatory agencies in general. I heard one news report a couple of weeks back the cellular phone technology was actually available in the late 1930s but that FEDERAL REGULATIONS by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) prohibited this service. I believe the FCC was formed in about 1934 or so.  When you stop and look at Federal Regulatory Agencies like the FCC and the Food and Drug Administration.  Here is a partial list of Federal Regulatory Agencies. I have included only those which affect all of us on a regular basis:

I have had dealings with two of these agencies regarding my job. The EEOC and OSHA.

A female applicant who had been terminated from another law enforcement agency applied at our department. She filled out an application and neglected to mention that she had been terminated from her previous job. Somehow that got by the Human Resources Director and this female made it to her oral interview board. Since she was married with a family, one of the interviewers asked her if she had talked this job over with her spouse and she replied yes. A few days later, it was learned that she had been terminated from a previous job for lying and she was not hired.

She filed a complaint through EEOC and there was a hearing and while her not being hired was upheld she filed a civil suit and won somewhere around $75,000 with the reason given that the department had violated EEOC rules.

A couple of years after that I was sent to a school regarding steps to take should our department have to undergo an OSHA Inspection. The school was something like three days long and we were told what to be on guard against and some things NOT to say and how to answer certain other questions. Now at that time you had federal OSHA inspections and State of New Mexico Inspections. This class dealt only with the Federal OSHA inspections. Just prior to the class letting out the lead instructor asked if there were any questions or any comments.  Someone in the class then told the instructor that what he had gotten out of the class was that if the Federal OSHA Inspectors came to your department for an inspection that the best thing to do was to just lie your ass off. The instructor said... "That's about it."

Fortunately our first inspection was by the State of NM Inspectors and they were really nice guys and when they found something that needed to be addressed they pointed it out and said that we needed to correct that before our next inspection. We were really in pretty good shape but I did appreciate their attitude and a couple of the items would probably have gotten us dinged in a federal inspection. AND those Federal OSHA Inspectors could cause you some major problems with some very high monetary fines like thousands of dollars PER DAY until the problem was fixed.

Anyway, my OPINION of OSHA took a nose dive after attending that school.

We are getting ready for some house guests for a couple of days beginning tomorrow. As I have said in the past, we have hosted a number of college students from S. Korea who were attending Angelo State University for varying lengths of time. One of the first girls we hosted was here for several semesters and like the rest of those S. Korean students she was a real pleasure to be around. She was a very smart girl and after graduating from our college here in San Angelo with her Bachelor's Degree she returned home and has just completed her work for her Master's and will begin work on her Doctorate next year. She is a very talented girl. She played the piano, the cello, and the began guitar lessons.  Her Mom and Dad lived in Texas when he was working on one of his advanced degrees. He is a professor at the University in Ulsan, Korea.

Anyway, this wonderful young lady along with her Mom and older Sister are changing planes in Dallas and are taking a couple of days to come here and visit us. We will be glad to see her again and to meet some of her family.

We had our God Daughter who is also from S. Korea come and visit us for a week during early October and that was really enjoyable.

I never ceased to be amazed at how rapidly those S. Korean students learned things. We had one girl who was a regular visitor in our home who knew more about American History than most Americans.  She made the statement one day that she thought it was a real shame how little American students knew about the history of their own country.  I had to agree. She saw one of my copies of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution lying on my desk one day and asked if she could borrow it. I told her no but that she could have it since I had extra copies.  A couple of days later she commented on how brilliant the people were who wrote these documents and what a genius Benjamin Franklin was. I was in agreement on both counts.

I am anxiously awaiting to see how the new tax cut legislation will affect me and my family. I already got our notices from Social Security advising us of our 2% Cost Of Living Adjustment for 2018. My wife got a $15 per month raise in her benefit BUT her Medicare charges increased $15 per month.  What do you call that in Black Jack?  A Push.

I will actually see a small gain in my take home... and I do mean small. HOWEVER, it is a damn sight larger that during the Obama years where the Medicare increased but the gross distribution DID NOT.

Hello once again from the Association Of Jingoistic Fed Up With Politics Four Wheel Drive Fossil Fuel Burning Second Amendment Supporters Of West Texas.

HISTORY:

As a kid growing up in Texas, we took classes in Texas History almost every year in public schools from about the third grade on through at least our first or second year in High School. Of course I did not mind that one bit since the History of the founding of the State of Texas is very interesting and action packed. Of course early on we learned about the battles fought between the early settlers and the various Indian Tribes indigenous to the State. And we learned that since the State of Texas was an Independent Republic when they became a state in the United States that the Texas Flag could be flown at the SAME LEVEL as the United States Flag if the flag poles were side by side. Of course if both flags were flown together on one flag pole the American Flag would always hold the top position. Of course we learned about the various battles fought in the Texas War of Independence against the Republic of Mexico.

And just about every school kid in the country learned of the Battle of the Alamo and what it meant to the people of Texas. And Texas students of course learned of the Battle of San Jacinto which was fought on April 21, 1836 where General Sam Houston defeated a superior force of Mexican Troops under Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who in addition to being President of Mexico was also their Military Leader in the field.

In that Texas War of Independence, prior to the Battle of the Alamo, the small town of Gonzales, Texas had been given a cannon by the Mexican Government for the purpose of the settlers to be able to better fight hostile Indians in the area.  After hostilities between Mexico and the people of Texas had begun, the Mexican Government decided they wanted the cannon returned so they sent Lt. Francisco de Castaneda to retrieve the cannon. On October 2, 1835, Lt. Castaneda with about 100 Mexican Troops arrived at the settlement of Gonzales to demand the return of this cannon.  The folks in Gonzales had no intention of returning the weapon to the Mexican Government and the residents of Gonzales had some of their ladies hastily make a flag which was a white background with a black cannon and the words "Come And Take It" and this flag was flown over the cannon.

In Texas it is a very famous incident and I have a small replica of the "Come And Take It" Flag which I intend to have framed and hung on a wall in my home. I always enjoyed the "Come And Take It" moment in history and ran across a similar incident which occurred a few years earlier than the Gonzales incident.

I have always been fascinated with the ancient Spartans and in particular the Battle of Thermopylae. There have a number of movies made of this event and none of them were apparently remotely accurate. Of course, I am pretty sure that today's students would not be able to tell you anything at all about this famous battle, much less about who was involved and its place in history.

The Battle of Thermopylae took place in 480 BCE between the Persian Armies of Xerxes and the Greek Army under Leonidas. I know that the movies had Leonidas commanding a force of only 300 Spartans but that is not exactly the correct figures.  Yes there were approximately 300 Spartan Soldiers but they were supplemented by 2100 Arcadians; 1000 Lokrians; 1000 Phokians; 700 Thespians; 400 Corinthians; 400 Thebans; and approximately 300 others which brought the forces under the Spartan King Leonidas to somewhere between 6,000 and 7,000 troops. A bit more than the 300 attributed to the Greeks in the movies..... BUT the Persian forces under Xerxes numbered at least 200,000 by most estimates with some reaching as high as 1,000,000 troops.

In any event, the Greeks were heavily outnumbered. Prior to this enormous battle taking place, Xerxes sent a message to Leonidas requesting the Greeks to "Lay Down Their Arms.  The reply given by Leonidas was "Molon Labe" which as I understand it translates into "Come And Take Them."  I am pretty sure the residents of Gonzales, Texas did not know that a Spartan King had given the same reply to the Persian King in 480 BCE as they did to Lt. Castaneda in 1835.

Then Xerxes sent another message to the Spartans with the threat, "Our Arrows Will Block Out The Sun."  And of course the Spartan's reply was, "Then We Shall Have Our Battle In The Shade."

For a number of years I have been pretty fascinated with the Spartans and their outlook on life. Of course they were a very militaristic society with the young males being recruited into military units as small children and raised up believing that their military was the best in the world.  And at that time, they were more than likely correct.

I have read quite a bit about the civilian government of the Spartans and they did, according to what I have read and seen in documentary films, have a civilian government in place. BUT, and this is where I think we might take a page from the ancient Spartans, AFTER A GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL HAD COMPLETED HIS TOUR IN  OFFICE..... HE WAS PUT ON TRIAL AND HIS FATE WAS DECIDED BASED UPON WHETHER OR NOT HE HAD DONE A GOOD JOB AND HAD BEEN TRUTHFUL AND LOYAL TO THE SPARTAN PEOPLE.

ALL IN ALL NOT A BAD IDEA.

Anyway, I love ancient history as well as Texas and Southwest History and have learned of some really interesting people and occurrences. I am currently awaiting a book on Genghis Khan whose reign I have found fairly interesting. I do know that The Great Khan had a way of dealing with the Nation of Islam which was a bit tougher than anything we see today. Actually he appears to have been fairly tolerant of most religions.... AS LONG AS THEY DID NOT SHOW AGGRESSION TOWARD HIM OR HIS PEOPLE. But when they did.... he had a program in store for them that was .... shall I say... fairly JINGOISTIC.

MISCELLANEOUS:

For several months now it seems as if the entire news media... and I mean every single outlet ... has been concerned with either sexual advances made by either elected officials or members of the media or some of the Hollywood crowd ..... OR ..... the complete idiotic investigation by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller into the alleged COLLUSION between members of the Trump administration and Russia.

OF course in the course of this total humbug Russian Collusion Investigation by Robert Mueller and his band of merry men, it seems as if pretty much the only illegal acts during and after the election were not committed by either President Trump or his group but rather by Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.

Oh yes, I am aware that General Flynn was indicted by the Mueller hit squad and that he ended up pleading guilty to lying to Federal Investigators but it now seems as if his crime was not necessarily intentional but since he was a member of the Trump team, his scalp had to be hung from the Mueller lodge pole. Even some normally fairly liberal attorneys have said that Flynn's deeds really did not meet the standards of an intentional act.

AND, I could not help but remember the big deal back during the George W. Bush administration when the then Special Prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, finally got a Grand Jury to indict Lewis "Scooter" Libby for evidence turned up in an investigation into the alleged "OUTING" of Valerie Plame as a CIA Agent. Granted, Valerie Plame did in fact work for the CIA but whether or not her position was one considered classified as secret still remains a question. AND in fact, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald already knew prior to his investigation that Richard Armitage, a former Deputy Secretary of State, was in fact the person who leaked Plame's name and position to a member of the news media. YET, Fitzgerald kept up the sham until he finally got Libby tripped up enough to secure an indictment for lying to Federal Investigators.

The whole point of hanging Lewis Libby out to dry was simply because he was an advisor to then Vice President Dick Cheney in an attempt to bring down George W. Bush. I strongly imagine that General Flynn was thrown to the wolves in a similar attempt to get something on President Donald Trump.

Now here is the point where I began to have some doubts about President George W. Bush.  After Libby was given a jail sentence.... instead of giving Libby a FULL PARDON, President George W. Bush COMMUTED his sentence. In my books, President Bush should have granted Libby a full pardon thereby wiping the conviction off the record. BUT for some reason, President Bush didn't have the GUTS to do what was right.

I hope President Trump does the right thing.

I have heard all of these so called experts on Immigration tell us that Sanctuary Cities are in fact SAFER than those who enforce laws against illegal immigration. I find this a bit troubling, particularly following the NOT GUILTY VERDICT on the FIVE TIME DEPORTED ILLEGAL ALIEN who had been CONVICTED OF FELONY CRIMES WHILE ILLEGALLY IN THE UNITED STATES.

I have grown a bit weary of these so called Immigration Experts telling us how much that the Illegal Aliens in this country CONTRIBUTE to the overall well being of our economy.  I am tired of hearing about how they pay taxes and are an asset to their communities.

I am not for a moment trying to say that all illegal aliens are criminals or that many are not hard working people and are in fact good decent people. BUT please spare me the fairy tale about how they DO NOT COST the taxpayers of this country way more than what they pay into the system in taxes.

I have known way too many people who were born outside the United States who came here LEGALLY and obtained their citizenship through proper channels and were indeed model citizens.  BUT, those whom I have know who fall into that category did not burn or disrespect the American Flag and in fact were much more appreciative of their new country than many who were born here.

I have also known some folks who entered the country illegally who worked really hard and sent money home to their families, generally in Mexico, and most of them caused absolutely no problems and I knew of quite a few who after obtaining a work permit did, in fact, apply for citizenship and several of them received it after going through the process.

I have also known of some people from the Middle East who also entered our country legally and obtained their citizenship through the legal process.

BUT, the United States has laws against entering this country in any manner other that those prescribed by law and for years the Federal Government... at the highest levels in the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Branches have turned a blind eye to the problems it has caused citizens of the United States.

One must wonder just how safe the parents of Kate Steinle think the Sanctuary City of San Francisco is?

The article dealt with a Muslim woman who wants to be the first Muslim, hijab-wearing female officer on the Paterson, N.J. police force. This woman's name is Huda Shalabi. She is a Criminal Justice Student at Berkeley College in New Jersey. According to this article, her mission is "Paving the road for those who want to follow my footsteps."  The article went on to print a few questions asked of Huda Shalabi and her answers to those questions:

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE AN AMERICAN?   "To be an American means I have no boundaries, and have rights as a female Arab Muslim American wearing the hijab."........"Freedom of religion allows me to pay respect to my religion while living in the melting pot of America."

WHAT GIVES YOU HOPE OR WHAT CONCERNS YOU?   "There is a misconception of what it means to be an Arab or Muslim in America. I hope through volunteering in my hometown of Paterson and by serving the community with compassion and care, I can help dispel this misunderstanding and bring a voice to Muslim women in our country."

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH THROUGH YOUR EFFORTS?  "I hope to make a positive difference in my community and show what it truly means to be a Muslim American through my accomplishments. I want my success to show that America is the land of opportunity, where people of all backgrounds can strive to achieve their goals while still respecting their heritage."

The article went on to print some of her other keen observations: "I want to be able to reflect the community since it's very diverse and now there is not one Arab-Muslim female officer wearing the hijab." "It would mean the world to me, like I achieved something, that I'm unique, that I stand out.  I could be a role model to other Arab females in my community."

Just from some of her statements and observations, I almost think that Huda's real interests are promoting herself as a Muslim woman and it appears that wearing her hijab might just be more important to her than enforcing the laws of the City of Paterson, the State of New Jersey and the United States. It appears that her main interests are displaying her cultural differences over being a member of a team.

Well they have finally got the Final Four Division I college football teams picked to participate in the playoffs. I'm sure that not everyone is completely satisfied but since I don't have a dog in this fight I think my opinion is as valid as the next. You pretty well had to know that Clemson and Oklahoma were going to be shoo-ins after their performances last Saturday.  AND, I also figured Georgia due to their avenging their ONLY LOSS of the year by beating Auburn who had defeated them in a regular season meeting three weeks prior to the Southeast Conference Championship game.

NOW, if you are an Ohio State fan, I am sure you are upset especially since your team won the Big Ten Championship. BUT that is not how the experts and the computer saw it.  They obviously thought Alabama had shown enough strength throughout the season to deserve the fourth spot. AND, actually I had to agree with that being the pick. As I said, since I don't have a dog in this fight I would just like to see the four College Teams whom I also consider the be the BEST FOUR TEAMS in Division I duke it out for the championship.

In reality, I had rather see an EIGHT TEAM PLAYOFF SYSTEM but I don't care if you had, like basketball 64 teams picked.... someone would be upset. I had rather Urban Meyer be upset than me.

Greetings once again from the West Texas Home For Xenophobic Jingoistic Right Wing Conspirators.

TECHNOLOGY:

Let me begin by stating that I still carry an old style flip-phone that doesn't take photographs and and on which is darn near impossible to send text messages.  I do not use my cell phone when I am driving my vehicle. If, my phone rings while I am driving I pull over to the side of the road and stop or better still pull into a parking lot and stop before I answer the call. I do not dial my cell phone while I am driving. I cannot download apps or make purchases with my cell phone. I can dial someone else OR I can answer my cell phone when someone else calls me.  Those are the ONLY REASONS for which I need a cell phone.

I do not download books on Kindle. I read regular books. I like to highlight particularly interesting facts and almost every book I own even some of the fiction has tabs which mark interesting facts and interesting quotes for which I might wish to use later. I read almost every night prior to going to sleep. Usually I read for a couple of hours. I have a tendency to read on Sundays now that I have stopped watching the NFL games.

Why Jim, you are saying, you seem to be a bit old fashioned.  And to that, I plead guilty.  When I want to take photographs, I use my CAMERA.  When I want to see the photographs I take, I go to Wal-Mart and put in my little camera card and print as many as I want. If I do not wish to save it, I delete it.  Now, don't get me wrong. I receive a lot of photographs from friends, particularly our South Korean girls and I can save and print the ones I wish to keep.

My desk top computer is about as technologically advanced as I care to get. I can pull up videos of the Texas Aggie Band; of Abbot and Costello; of Tim Conway;  of Don Rickles;  of various Dean Martin Roasts; and pretty much everything else that I really enjoy including some old NFL moments before the league went over the edge.
Then, just a few mornings back I was listening to one of the talk radio programs in the morning and there was a doctor who was a specialist in his field and he was speaking of some of his views on young children and smart phones and video games and the like. According to this doctor, children under 10, TEN, X, years of age who are constantly using these electronic devices are running the risk of causing the left side of their brain to develop TOO EARLY. I am sure I don't have to go into explaining the Left Brain/Right Brain business as it is something which we have been aware for many, many years.  I have heard other doctors say that children should be in their early teens before they become addicted to these electronic devices.  They have further said that due to our public education system going down the tubes,  proper grammar is rapidly becoming unimportant to the academic community. I think we have all seen evidence of this.

I am convinced that if this technology bubble continues to expand at the current rate that we are rapidly developing and entire group of students who will be unable to read or write script handwriting. Spelling has already gone down the tubes and you can thank Twitter and electronic communications directly for that.

SO, what I am saying is that while technology is a good thing and electronic development has come in handy in all our lives..... DO NOT LET IT CONTROL YOUR LIFE.

DO NOT throw away your books as old and useless.  Young parents should read to AND read with their children. Every single Christmas and Birthday, my Grandkids and Great Grandkids receive printed books to read and keep.  Many of my friends receive books on subjects in which they are interested.

I have been an avid reader since I was probably 10 or 12 years old. My favorite subjects are books on Western and Texas History; American History (particularly the American War of Independence). BUT I also really like good fiction particularly in the area of mysteries, westerns, and science fiction. I also have quite a good collection of many of the classics most of which have been made into movies at one time or another.  I do not play video games or spend a great deal of time on Google.

I do have a laptop which came with Windows 8 which I hate. I have looked at some computers with Windows 10 and know I would hate it also. I thought Windows 7 was the most user friendly program Microsoft ever came up with. I still use it as much as possible. Actually the ONLY time I use my laptop is when one of our girls or one of our Grandkids calls us on SKYPE... and I do like SKYPE very much. I think it is amazing to be able to talk with someone half way around the world from San Angelo, Texas and be able to see them live as you are speaking.
I was in complete agreement with many of those doctors who are saying that the very young in our society are being hurt by too much exposure to smart phone technology. They don't as a whole get outside and just play and be kids any longer..... a real shame.

MISTAKE:

All of us have made MISTAKES in our lives. A MISTAKE generally involves a misinterpretation of something or of someone's actions.  I have about had the lick on the idiots in the media, particularly the Sports Media, in their reporting of the three U.C.L.A. basketball players who were in CHINA to play a basketball game against Georgia Tech in Shanghai.

These 3 U.C.L.A. players;  LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hill were arrested by Chinese Police for the crime of shoplifting from several stores in Hangzhou, China. Of course immediately the media and the players and everyone concerned began to classify what the players had done as a MISTAKE.

Now from where I sit and from dealing with shoplifters for at least 45 years of my adult life, I have always labored under the impression that the crime of shoplifting is a form of THEFT and I cannot think of a single SHOPLIFTING case I was ever involved with that did not have some degree of INTENT on the part of the person committing the crime.

Once again, you have SHOPLIFTING here in the United States and while it is frowned upon it is generally viewed as one of the milder forms of THEFT.  This, however, does not seem to be the case in CHINA where as I understand it, the three players were facing a minimum of 5...V... FIVE ...Cinco ... years in a Chinese jail. One must wonder just exactly what the views of those three players would have been regarding the American Criminal Justice System in comparison with the Chinese Criminal Justice System after pulling five years hard time for stealing stuff?

Of course, President Trump did intercede on their behalf and the President of the People's Republic of China made a request on behalf of the three players and the charges were dropped. I think President Trump did the right thing, HOWEVER, his actions, while appreciated by the 3 players, was not viewed in a positive manner by the father of LiAngelo Ball who showed what a complete idiot he was.

There were actually two VERY BAD CHOICES made by these three Americans;

1) Committing a crime

2) Committing a crime IN CHINA

ANYWAY, intentionally STEALING FROM OTHERS is an act that I do not view as a MISTAKE since there was INTENT involved.

BEHAVIOR:

While attending Church last Sunday morning I could not help but notice a family whom we see on a fairly regular basis at our 9 AM Sunday Services. It is generally a young father accompanied by his two daughters. The oldest looks to be about 6 or 7 years old and the youngest looks to be about 4 or 5 years in age. The older girl has long brown hair while the young girl has very blonde hair and in looks reminds us of our 7 year old Great Grand Daughter who lives on a ranch near Powderhorn, Colorado.

What is so noticeable about these two young girls is that their behavior in church is exemplary and I have never seen their father have to correct them at any time. They appear to be paying attention to what is being said and I noticed that when the congregation says The Lord's Prayer, both little girls are saying it right along with everyone else.

The thought struck me that out of a whole church full of families with children of various ages, these two young girls stand out.... NOT because they are misbehaving BUT rather due to their really good behavior.

I understand that small babies will occasionally cry due to some reason known only to them and of course that is to be expected. Incidentally, I am convinced that babies have a language all their own and that they are the only ones who understand it.

BUT what is really irritating are people who bring their children to church and allow them to run up and down the aisles; occasionally bringing food and toys as an incentive for the children to not act up. I remember one family with 2 young boys who were allowed to do just about anything they desired and they were a real disruptive element. Their parents attempted to control them but were unable to do so. This indicated to me that they received NO DISCIPLINE AT HOME.

I thought it a real sign of how far our society has slipped when a young child behaving well is noticeable while a child misbehaving and creating a disruption has become acceptable and expected in our society.

I can remember on one occasion at a Baptist Church service when I was 4 years old that things were not going quite in the manner I wanted so I blurted out a question in the middle of the preacher's sermon. It halted everything and of course I was immediately removed from the church and severely thrashed by everyone big enough to administer corporal punishment.  That was my first and last time to act stupid in church. The reason was that this type of behavior was totally unacceptable by the entire adult population of Wortham, Texas. I realize that times have changed but they have not necessarily changed for the better, particularly in behavior that is now acceptable from children at home or anywhere else for that matter.

What question did you ask?.... some are probably wanting to know.  Well I had an Uncle who was a really neat old guy who took me lots of places and when I was pouting about having to attend the Church services, my Uncle told me that after the services were over, we were going to shoot some Japanese Soldiers. Of course being 4 years old in the early months of World War II, I thought this would be a really good thing to see.  SO, when the services began to drag on and became really boring, I yelled out, "Hey! When are we going to shoot the Japs?"  This was after Pearl Harbor and I heard War News every day of my life and while by today's standards, the views of most Americans back then would be termed RACIST by today's standards, most Americans including me had no use for the Japanese Empire or anyone connected with it.  Life as I knew it came to an abrupt halt.  And after everyone got through yelling at me and causing me some pain.... my good old Uncle did fess up and told my Mom and Dad that he had told me before the services that after church we were going to shoot some Japanese Soldiers.  Of course, all of the adults had a good laugh about it but I didn't find much humor in the whole incident.

Also, after that incident, I was a perfect little gentleman in Church from then on.

Earlier today I heard several reports where several News Organizations have been putting out the story that Donald Trump is exhibiting signs of Dementia/Alzheimer's.  I got to thinking about these reports and they only substantiated my opinion that the mainstream media is manned by some real scum.  I have several friends who have had family members with Dementia and I felt rather insulted that the media would have so little character as to use a debilitating condition such as Dementia or Alzheimer's for political purposes.  I had an Aunt who died many years ago who suffered from Dementia and she was one of the finest women I have ever known. She was my Mom's sister and even while suffering from this disease, she was always able to remember the birthdays of family members on both my Mother's and Father's sides of the family. She loved to play dominoes and was tough to handle but some really simple things just escaped her. This was prior to the medical profession being as aware of Alzheimer's as they are today.

Anyway, I thought it completely classless for the media to be putting out this kind of stuff simply because they do not like President Trump.

Of course, I have grown to expect complete lack of class from most members of the media.... AND I MEAN  ALL OF THE MEDIA!

OH NO! I read in this morning's edition of the (Sub) Standard Times that Keith Olbermann is RETIRING FROM POLITICAL COMMENTARY IN ALL MEDIA VENUES.  What are we to do now that we won't have Keith Olbermann to point us on the right track in political matters?  I am sure, like me, you are asking yourself WHY is Keith Olbermann retiring from Political Commentary? Well according to this article in the (Sub) Standard Times, Olbermann is certain the President Donald Trump will be impeached or resign. The article announced this, evidently in, GQ (Gentleman's Quarterly for those of you residing in the People's Republic of San Francisco).  Also, you might keep in mind that Gentleman's Quarterly's Citizen Of The Year is none other than COLIN KAEPERNICK.  So with that in mind you might guess my opinion not only of GQ, but any of their contributors or opinions.  AND let me also remind you that Keith Olbermann GOT FIRED FROM THE MSNBC NETWORK which is one of the absolute worst news organizations in the Milky Way Galaxy.

I read an article earlier today that said the Obamas spent over $114 MILLION DOLLARS on their family travel during his 8 years in office.  ALSO, along these same lines, we keep hearing about a Congressional Slush Fund which has been used to pay off judgments against Congressmen for various accusations. OK now, as I understand it, this is ALL done with TAXPAYER'S MONEY.  I have always been told that ANYTIME Tax Dollars are used for ANYTHING that this is a Public Record.  SO, with this in mind... WHY don't we know who, when, and how much of this fund has been used... you know... like THEIR NAMES and THE AMOUNT and TO WHOM IT WAS PAID?

I know for a fact from serving as an elected City Official after my retirement from the Police Department that THE MEDIA or THE PUBLIC is ENTITLED TO KNOW HOW THEIR TAX DOLLARS ARE SPENT. I can remember every year for a number of years that the Names and the Salaries of EVERY SINGLE CITY, COUNTY, STATE, AND SCHOOL EMPLOYEE WAS PUBLISHED IN MANY LOCAL NEWSPAPERS.  Why?  BECAUSE PUBLIC FUNDS WERE USED TO PAY THOSE SALARIES.

I know that House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell appear to be claiming ignorance on the subject BUT I  DO NOT BELIEVE THEM.

Hello once more from the Headquarters For Jingoistic Xenophobic Vast Right Wing Conspiratorial Constitutionalists Of West Texas

ACCUSATIONS:

I have always found it somewhat unusual that the Democrat/Progressive/Socialist/Marxist/Establishment politicians have different standards regarding alleged acts for which politicians are accused.  Of course there is ONE STANDARD for Democrats/Progressives/Socialist/Establishment (both parties) Politicians.... and quite another for ANYONE who is suspected of being either Conservative or someone who thinks in a manner not consistent with the typical inside the beltway thinking.

Here are just a few examples:

1)  President Trump has been accused of COLLUDING WITH THE RUSSIANS, in order to control the 2016 Presidential Election. Of course there has been absolutely NO PROOF that anything even approaching this has occurred and in fact, Hillary Clinton actually won the Popular Vote.

2) During the past few weeks there has been overwhelming evidence that not only did the Democrats and the Hillary Clinton bunch COLLUDE with RUSSIAN OPERATIVES but additionally PAID MONEY FROM THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE to RUSSIAN OPERATIVES to fabricate stories about some acts and attribute them to then Candidate Donald Trump.

SO, on one hand we have some pretty obvious false accusations made against President Trump and some apparent provable crimes committed by the Clinton criminals but the mainstream media is still whipping the Trump Russia Collusion Story.

3) Then we had the big so called Investigation into the Hillary Clinton mishandling of e-mails, some of which were classified and some allegedly top secret. This so called investigation was handled by none other than the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, James Comey.

4) Prior to the conclusion of Comey's so called investigation, he is said to have drafted a letter to then Attorney General Loretta Lynch recommending NO CRIMINAL CHARGES be filed against Hillary Clinton.

5) Then, after James Comey was fired and replaced as Director of the F.B.I., a close friend and confidant of Comey's, Robert Mueller was appointed as a Special Council to make inquiries into... yep, you guessed it.... possible COLLUSION WITH RUSSIA by the Trump Administration.

One must seriously wonder why a Special Prosecutor HAS NOT BEEN APPOINTED to look into the goings on with the Clinton Foundation's deals with Russia; With the Russians getting their hands on U.S. Uranium while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State and Barack Hussein Obama was President of the United States. Almost sounds as if the Democrats/Progressives/Socialists/Marxists were in COLLUSION WITH RUSSIA prior to Donald Trump ever announcing his intention to run for President.

It obviously appears as if the entire American Political Picture... particular those who have made a career out of being permanent residents of Washington, D.C. have completely lost any semblance of honesty with the American people. Their trustworthiness is at an all time low yet they act as if we owe them something. Sorry, but I do not feel as if I owe people who are stealing money from us via an unfair tax code and unfair regulations ANY LOYALTY WHATSOEVER!

And now we have the accusations against the Alabama Republican Candidate for the U.S. Senate. He has been accused of making sexual advances toward young teen age girls some 35 or 40 years past.  I have no idea how one would go about proving any of these allegations since they have been reported ONLY AFTER Judge Roy Moore WON the Republican Primary.  I also have no idea whether or not there is any truth in the allegations nor do I know if they are completely made up. BUT I do find it a bit unusual that these women would hold off on the accusations, some for as long as 40 years.  And it isn't as if Judge Roy Moore has been in hiding for those 40 years. I might also point out that one of the accusers is a Democrat supporter of Robert Moore's Democrat opponent in the December 12th election in Alabama. I also heard today that one piece of evidence which has been presented was a sentiment written in one of the women's high school annual is now under question as part of it was written in BLACK INK and another part written in BLUE INK. I found that a bit unusual.

BUT, my point is this.  The Republicans in the Senate, particularly Mitch McConnell have already convicted Roy Moore of the accusations as has House Speaker Paul Ryan.  I must say that whether or not Roy Moore is guilty of the accusations is not my main question. Although if he did as he has been accused, I believe he should immediately drop out.... BUT.... if he is innocent, he should see it through.

HOWEVER, along with Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan the very FIRST REPUBLICAN I heard come out sounding as if Roy Moore had already been tried and convicted was none other than SENATOR JOHN MC CAIN.  I am sure that all of you know my opinion of this phony varmint. I also heard on one of our local news programs that Texas Senator John Cornyn is being rather vocal in siding with Mitch McConnell.

Isn't it odd how the Democrats/Progressives/Socialists/Marxists immediately convict and call for the political lynching of ANY Republican accused of ANYTHING.... BUT.... when it is a Democrat/Progressive/Socialist/Marxist/Establishment professional politician, they scream that "A MAN IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT!"  Now while I agree with this premise, I think it should maybe hold true regardless of a person's political party preference.

But once again, we are being shown in High Definition Color that THERE IS VERY LITTLE DIFFERENCE IN PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS, REGARDLESS OF THEIR POLITICAL PARTY AFFILIATION.  
And let's be honest.  Roy Moore is NOT a MAINSTREAM REPUBLICAN and is NOT one of the Inside The Beltway RATS. Again, I do not know if Roy Moore is guilty of the accusations or not BUT until something a bit more concrete shows up, I do not believe that the Professional Politicians in Washington, D.C. should have ANY SAY in who represents Alabama in the U.S. Senate..... Doesn't that task sort of rest with the voters in Alabama?

COMMERCIALS:

Like most of you, I use the remote when most commercials appear on television channels. Also I have noticed that most programming, including news programs all break for commercials at approximately the same time.

AND, of course most commercials are an insult to our intelligence and I do not even know what some of these commercials are attempting to sell. I do know that I have grown way past weary of FLO and her Progressive Insurance Commercials as well as Shaq and The General on their Insurance Commercials.  BUT, one of the most insulting commercials to me is one put on by the Insurance Company with whom I have my Automobile; Homeowners; and Flood Insurance Policies with. I have to admit that every time I have had to use my insurance for anything, my company has come through big time. I do happen to have Allstate Insurance and I do receive discounts for packaging all of my policies together.

BUT the Allstate Insurance Commercial which is really insulting to me is the man driving his care along with his wife and 2 kids in the car. The wife and both kids have ear buds stuck in their ears listening to God only knows what. BUT the guy driving is talking to himself (and the audience) telling us just how slick he is by using some rebate he gets from his Insurance Company to purchase stuff that his wife doesn't know about. All this tells me is that this guy hasn't got the guts to stand up to his wife and has to keep stuff hidden from her.

I have known folks like that in real life and just wondered how they could live like that. Anyway, I am sure that Allstate thinks this is a really good way to sell car insurance to American males.... but I much prefer commercials which use humor to sell their product.

Some of the drug commercials are also very insulting and the promote these miracle drugs right up until the last 30 seconds or so when they begin to tell you of some "Possible Side Effects."  I don't know about the rest of you but when one of the "Side Effects" might be INTERNAL BLEEDING or STROKE or something along those lines, I don't believe I am quite ready to try one of those drugs.

Also, damn near ALL of the beer commercials seem to be geared to catch the attention of some really weak minded folk.

I can still remember the old Miller Light commercials when they began to use retired athletes in the "Great Taste" vs. "Less Filling" mode. Even the old American Express commercials using people like Tom Landry were really funny and didn't make you want to throw up or change the channel.

BUT, my ALL TIME FAVORITE COMMERCIAL was the one which was put on by Electric Data Systems (EDS) and is perhaps the funniest television commercial ever. This was the one which showed a group of Cowboys herding CATS. It was absolutely hilarious and you could see it every single day several times a day and it was ALWAYS FUNNY. When a bunch of grizzled looking old cowboys are riding horses and thousands of cats are running across the prairie is funny in itself but when you add the dialogue it is even funnier:  "Holdin' together 10,000 half wild shorthairs... well, that's another thing all together." "It ain't an easy job but when you bring a herd into town and you ain't lost a one of 'em... there ain't a feelin' like it in the world."

AND, why in the world would Budweiser get away from the Clydesdales playing football? Their use of those horses and dogs was classic. Everyone loved those commercials and now they are just another beer commercial.... like all the rest.

I do not know who in the advertising industry has decided that insulting us all helps to sell products. Well, perhaps it does help sell items to Democrats/Progressives/Socialists/Marxists/Establishment Republicans since those people seem to possess the sense of humor of a salt water crocodile. Sorry to insult the salt water crocs but that is how I see it.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it a bit unusual that when Donald Trump Jr. attends a meeting for only a few minutes with a group which contained a Russian attorney and left without getting involved in the conversation, that it was called COLLUSION (which is not a crime) ..... yet when the Democrat National Committee along with Debbie Wasserman Schultz AT THE INSTRUCTION of Hillary Clinton pay large sums of money to foreign operatives to fabricate a report telling complete lies regarding Donald Trump's actions on a previous Russian trip and this is corroborated by members of the Democrat National Committee (which is a crime), that this is called... "OPPOSITION RESEARCH?"

I also listened to a news report a couple of days back which indicated that Republican Governor of Ohio, John Kasich is formulating a plan to run for President in 2020 with his running mate being Democrat Governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper. You might also notice that BOTH have been added to the Varmint List. Kasich messed up with me during the Presidential Debates.

I also notice that along with John Cornyn (R-TX) that Ted Cruz (R-TX) has joined Cornyn and Mitch McConnell and the rest of the establishment mutts in calling for Roy Moore to drop out of the Senate Race. Once again, I do not know if Roy Moore is guilty of any misconduct or not.... BUT neither do Corny, Cruz, or McConnell. It looks to me as if Ted Cruz has fallen in with the establishment vermin in the U.S. Senate. Sorry to see that.

I guess that pretty much the national news cycle is being controlled by accusations by various people against other famous folks for sexual harassment.  I am sure that some of it is factual but it is probably also true that some of it is made up stories for political purposes. There was one story this morning with a huge photo of someone named Louis C.K. who is supposed to be a comedian of some type. I must say that I had never heard of this bozo nor have I ever seen any type of film or video in which to my knowledge he appeared....

I do know that one of the ONLY situation comedy programs in the past few years that I have enjoyed is "Last Man Standing" which stars Tim Allen and Nancy Travis. (whom I always thought was a really pretty lady) The show takes place in Denver, Colorado and Tim Allen plays a really conservative business man with three daughters who are all different and all pretty funny. It was a good show and I get to watch it for a couple of hours a day on cable on a channel which shows re-runs of the program. Why re-runs? Easy, The Network CANCELLED the show which was the SECOND HIGHEST RATED COMEDY SHOW ON ABC and was the THIRD HIGHEST RATED SHOW on the ABC Network.  Why was it cancelled? Good question. I read where the show was cancelled by ABC after Tim Allen admitted he went to President Trump's Inauguration.

I am really happy that one of the cable channels (CMT) has decided to show the repeats of the show. It has a really good cast and gives me a bit of a break from the normal junk shown on the networks.

I might not know who is doing what in the NFL but I damn sure know a little about what is going on in Texas High School Football. In our area we have several teams who play their first playoff game beginning this Thursday (tomorrow). 

In Class 6A... the San Angelo Central Bobcats (10-0) play El Paso Pebble Hills (8-2)

In Class 3A div. I... the Wall Hawks (10-0) play Friona (7-3)

In Class 3A div. II .. Sonora Broncos (10-0) play Coleman (3-7)

                   Reagan County (5-5) plays Eastland (7-3)

                   Ballinger (3-7) plays Cisco (8-2)

In Class 2A div. I .. Mason Punchers (10-0) play Rosebud-Lott (6-4)

                  Christoval (4-6) plays Hawley (7-3)

In Class 2A div. II... Menard (8-2) plays Miles (2-8)

                  Irion County (4-6) plays Albany (10-0)

In 6 Man which is Class 1A div. I ... we have 4 area teams playing opponents from outside the area

    and in  Class 1A div. II there is only 1 team, Richland Springs (9-1) playing Morgan (6-4)

So there is lots of Texas High School Football for folks in W. Texas to watch this coming week end. San Angelo Central; Wall Hawks; Sonora Broncos; Mason and Menard are ALL District Champions.

Greetings once again from the Corporate Offices Of Jingoistic Xenophobic Right Wing Conspiratorial Second Amendment Supporters Of West Texas

SPORTS:

Without dwelling too long on the NFL, as most of you know, I have, as they said on the original Mission Impossible, DISAVOWED ANY KNOWLEDGE of those folks. I did get one brief moment of enjoyment when I heard that the Owner of the Houston Texans had made the statement that he viewed the entire kneeling/sitting or whatever during the National Anthem was an example of the "Inmates Running The Prison" which is what I have been saying all along.... but the Texan's Owner was much nicer about it than I have been. BUT I still have not watched any of the games after the first week of the season. I only know a couple of the winners of yesterday's games as it was on the sports page of the (Sub) Standard Times. Of course since the (Sub) Standard Times is a morning paper and is printed in Abilene which is 85 or 90 miles away, and the paper goes to press before many of the evening games are finished. SO, Friday night's Texas High School Football scores are generally printed in the (Sub) Standard Times on Sunday morning. Of course by that time I have been on the Internet and have already checked on the scores of the high schools in our area and those around the state in whom I have some interest.

Of course on Saturday any late afternoon or night college game scores are printed out in Monday morning. The scores of the early Saturday games are generally printed in Sunday morning's excuse for a local newspaper. BUT, they never fail to have all of the crap printed in U.S.A. Today out on schedule. As I understand it the bunch who own U.S.A. Today own the (Sub) Standard Times so it is of small wonder why the local San Angelo newspaper  is about as useful as horse crap in a punch bowl.

SO, knowing this, I decided to watch game 5 of the World Series which is being played in Houston and although I have not been very faithful in watching major league baseball in a number of years, being an old Houston kid, I decided to watch some of the games since the Houston Astros are representing the American League in the Series. I watched them defeat the N.Y. Yankees and have checked in on the Series games against the Dodgers.

BUT on Sunday evening, I decided to watch the entire game with the Series tied at 2 games apiece. A good decision on my part. I watched perhaps the most exciting baseball game I have seen in a number of years.... probably since the 1950s and 60s when the Yankees were tearing everybody up.  When the Dodgers got a 4 run lead, I almost turned the game off as I was pretty sure that Houston would not come back.... and am I glad I didn't follow my initial thoughts.  Houston tied it up a couple of times and then in the late innings got a lead which was erased by some timely hitting by the Dodgers and the game went into extra innings with Houston scoring the winning run in a 13 to 12 win against the Dodgers in 10 innings. I would have given anything to have been at the ball park in Houston on Sunday evening. Those people went nuts. I think the game was close to 5 and 1/2 hours long and I was a tired puppy at the end but I am sure happy that I didn't follow my initial decision to turn it off in the early innings. Then the Dodgers tied the series up last night so tonight's winner will be the World Champions. Great series no matter who ends up winning.... but I sure hope it's the Astros.

Of course most if my interest this football season has revolved around several area teams. The San Angelo Central Bobcats won a key game last Friday when they defeated Odessa Permian for the District lead. Both teams were undefeated and Central was one spot ahead of Permian in the State Rankings.

Of course I always check on the Bremond Tigers who are the 3 in a row State Champions in District 2A - Division II, which is the smallest 11 man class in the state. We also have a 3A team in the Wall Hawks who in some polls are the top ranked 3A team in the state.  Also in the general area we have the Mason Punchers who are ranked either 1st or 2nd in Class 2A.

Of course my real interest since living in the San Angelo area has turned to Six Man Football. I will not even attempt to explain the rules to you but almost every single game is a high scoring show. One of the best Six Man games I ever watched several years back was a playoff game won by the Strawn Greyhounds in a quarter final game that Strawn won by a score of something like 106 - 96.  And in that game, Strawn had a couple of great goal line stands and I saw the hardest hit I have ever seen at any level on a kickoff. I thought the runner was dead but he came around after a few minutes but never returned to the game.

There is one particular Six Man football program that has been tough every single year I have lived in San Angelo, Texas. And that is the Richland Springs Coyotes. I I believe they have won 8 State Championships just since I have lived in San Angelo and they have made the playoffs every single year I have lived here. And in Six Man Football they have what is known as the 45 point mercy rule. If one team is ahead by 45 or more points at any point in the second half, the game is ended.

Needless to say, Richland Springs has been on the winning side of this rule in more games than they have not. Anyway, on Friday, October 27, 2017, Richland Springs defeated Rochelle by a score of 54 to 0.  That was not the real interesting part. Richland Springs only ran 5... yes.. that is FIVE..... V...... Cinco.... offensive plays and three of them went for touchdowns. The rest of their points were scored by safety; punt return; kickoff return; and I believe a fumble recovery. Of course the game was called after the half as Richland Springs had scored over 45 points by the start of the second half. But I thought the fact that they only ran 5 offensive plays and still scored 54 points was fairly amazing.

Anyway, Texas High School football is as good as it gets.

HISTORY:

 Yesterday morning I heard a statement attributed to David Gregory who is a news contributor to one of the mainstream news sources... I believe CNN... but it is hard to tell as they are all equally misinformed and equally slanted in their reporting.

Anyway, the quote attributed to Gregory was that CIVIL WAR HISTORY WAS NOT REALLY HISTORY.  No?  Then pray tell me just what in the hell it is. Just for the benefit of David Gregory, according to my Webster's Dictionaries, History is:  1)  an account of what has happened particularly in the life of a b\people, country, etc.  2) all recorded past events  3) the branch of knowledge that  deals systematically with the past   4) a known or recorded past  5) annals  6)  records  7) archives

BUT nowhere could I find any other definition or statement regarding "History" which even approached the stupidity of the statement attributed to David Gregory. I seem to remember a good many years back that David Gregory was on NBC and I seem to recall that I thought he was pretty much an idiot even back then. I also looked up some of his past (let's not confuse this with history) positions on various issues and it seems as if he has had to apologize on a number of occasions for making some really foolish observations and statements on a myriad of occurrences.

Let's see if anyone calls him to task on his utterly stupid statement regarding Civil War History.  Then, let us just look at his statement and pretend for a moment that he is correct in his assessment of historical events regarding the Civil War. If his blanket statement was correct then how about this?

There were no slaves

Over 620,000 Americans were not killed in this conflict

Blacks were never segregated from whites in the United States

Gettysburg never occurred

South Carolina and 10 other states never seceded from the Union

General Lee never surrendered the Southern forces at Appomattox

There was no reconstruction for the Southern States

SO, if there were never any slaves... then why is slavery STILL being brought up by black politicians and black special interest groups?

Why do ANY statues of Southern Civil War soldiers have to be removed?

Why are names of schools, streets, stadiums and other things being changed because they were originally named after Southern Civil War people?

I'll tell you why. It is because the Civil War DID OCCUR. Prior to the Civil War there were slaves in North America. There were over 620,000 Americans killed in that war.

BUT, it has become a popular position for the Liberals/Progressives/Democrats/Socialists in today's world to decide to judge people in the past by today's standards of behavior.  It has become popular among this same group if idiots to observe some occurrence or person in America's past and just decide to change or re-write or in many cases just simply delete the occurrence or person from the records of our country.

This is also why this same group of idiots try to change the meanings of the words written by the founders of our country in our Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution to suit their slanted views of the world which they hold at present.

I have heard any number of Federal Judges at the highest levels along with District Judges at the state levels make the statement that the Constitution SAYS WHAT IT MEANS AND MEANS WHAT IT SAYS.  Many of them contend that the Constitution was written so that the interpretation of the document would remain constant through the ages. I realize that many of the founders were in fact themselves slave owners. BUT also let us not forget that although a person owning another person as a piece of property is wrong, several hundred years ago it was legal. That is why on December 6, 1865 the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified and it reads:

Amendment XIII.

Section 1.  Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Now I am sure that David Gregory probably would not recognize any of this as it does not fit in with his left wing garbage view of our country;  our people; our Constitution; or OUR  HISTORY.  LEAVE OUR AMERICAN HISTORY ALONE AND STOP TRYING TO  CHANGE IT TO SUIT YOUR OWN THINKING!

Since yesterday afternoon, pretty much the entire news cycle has been devoted to reporting on the Terrorist Attack on civilians in New York City. Of course we probably will not know the complete story for several days or perhaps weeks.

But I guess I have been remiss in my knowledge regarding legal immigration into the United States since yesterday was the first time I had heard the term, "DIVERSITY VISA."  AND of course without knowing anything about it, my initial thoughts were that the very name for that type of VISA probably told me all I needed to know about it. But I did bother to look up a few facts and learned that it was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush and the initial plan was to allow more Europeans to enter the United States and obtain a Green Card.

I also learned that something like 50,000 people a year are allowed into our country on one of these DIVERSITY VISAS.  Of course the Middle Eastern Muslim male who was the perpetrator of yesterday's TERRORIST ATTACK which kill 8 people and injured a dozen or so more was in the United States on one of these DIVERSITY VISAS. I have no information on how many of these types of VISAS are issued to people from Middle Eastern countries.  However, it is fairly obvious that this particular individual slipped through the cracks.

Of course the mainstream media has downplayed the fact the the perpetrator was a Middle Eastern Muslim male.  One report I heard was that a RENTAL TRUCK had run through people on a bike path killing 8 so far.  OK. This sort of reminds me back when the media was down big time on SUVs and every report almost led you to believe that the SUV had a mind of its own and that the SUV was the cause of the problem rather than the DRIVER of the SUV.  So now I guess that RENTAL TRUCKS are the culprits now in the crime rather than the drivers.

Then I watched the idiot Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio make his statement to the press of course offering his prayers to the families of the victims of this TERRORIST ATTACK and also tried to downplay just how dangerous his city has become. I have watched several so called Terrorist Experts talk about forming a "Task Force" to concentrate on "Soft Targets."  Yeah, good luck with that. Give me an hour or so and I can find you probably a dozen or so "Soft Target Areas" right here in San Angelo, Texas. Now just how many "Soft Target Areas" do you suppose exist in New York City.... or Los Angeles ...... or Chicago ...... or Houston ........ or the Dallas/Ft. Worth area .... or almost any U.S. city with a population over 100,000 inhabitants?

Once again these idiots are allowing Political Correctness to guide their thoughts and words.  HOWEVER, I did also see a few people who had a clue about what is going on and they spoke about letting the developed intelligence point out THE POTENTIAL TERRORISTS and the places where they frequented and keep them under surveillance. Just from a law enforcement standpoint,  surveillance on the criminals was almost always more productive than trying to watch a potential target. Of course if you had specific reliable information on a particular location which was going to be hit along with perhaps a time frame then sitting on a target location was fine.

AND, pardon me for using the "P" word but it is about time that specialized intelligence units began to "PROFILE" particular groups and locations to assign their resources. BUT that might mean keeping certain Mosques under surveillance and of course that is not permitted by Mayor de Blasio and many other Politically Correct community leaders. I just wonder if say a particular Baptist Church was the home of a terrorist plot if these government heads would be willing to neglect surveillance on that particular location?

BUT in reality, it must ALL BEGIN WITH WHOM WE ALLOW TO LEGALLY ENTER OUR COUNTRY!  And until we have elected officials and law enforcement Administrators who are willing to throw Political Correctness out the window and stop caving in to the Diversity idiots then we can expect more of the same.

AND when you start placing the blame for allowing our so called Immigration Policies to go down the tubes... we need look no further than the U.S. Congress (Both Houses) and the Executive Branch (Both Parties).  Looking back, I have to place quite a bit of blame on President George W. Bush and his Administration.  Then, of course, it really went to Hell under the criminal Obama Administration.

Name me one other country other than the Western European countries who allow unrestricted entry into their country. I am sure there are some but I'll wager not many. Anyway, if the present policies of New York City are allowed to continue, we have not seen the last of this type of attack.

OH, and one other thing. Just drop this "Lone Wolf" line of thinking. These Jihadist Terrorists are all part of the same tribe.

Hello once again from the Home Of Jingoistic Vast Right Wing Conspirators Of West Texas.

POLLS:

For the past couple of days I have been reading and hearing about a New York Times POLL which came out prior to last November's Presidential Election. According to all the reports, the New York Times reported that not only would Hillary Clinton win the election, she would win it by a total of:

Hillary Clinton .......... 97%

Donald Trump..........  3%

Now, when that did not occur and Donald Trump beat her like a tied dog, not only the New York Times but every single Liberal, Left wing, Socialist group and publication and news outlet on the planet began trying to figure out..... HOW COULD THIS HAVE HAPPENED?

AND, of course, this was an opportunity for the person who had the 97% chance of winning the election to almost immediately write a book to tell the great unwashed masses just exactly WHY she got beat. AND, I could have predicted her reasons even before her book was was released that she would blame some type of illegal collusion by the Trump Campaign with some nefarious group or groups. Which brings us to the big bad investigation regarding the possible collusion between the Trump Campaign and THE RUSSIANS.  We have had special prosecutors appointed... none of whom have any loyalty to President Trump but all kinds of connections with not only Hillary Clinton but the entire Obama criminal organization.  Ooops! Did I say CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION?  I guess I must have because that is just exactly what I believe the Obama Administration to have been.

BUT where the fun really starts is that up to this point in time, there has been no proof or even a sign of collusion between Donald Trump and the Russians and all kinds of indications of not only collusion with but actually under the table dealings with the Russians by Barack Obama and his band of merry criminals. It even is showing strong indications of massive cover ups by the Department of Justice under then Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former F.B.I. Director James Comey.

SO, with that in mind, I have conducted MY OWN POLL which shows the following:

I am sure there is a slight "Margin Of Error" in my poll BUT I'll bet it ain't as big as the one conducted prior to the election by the New York Times. AND, of course, just like the NY Times and most other POLL GROUPS, I only asked my questions to select people whom I knew would answer the questions in the same manner as would I. And I think it might be safe to assume that I have NO FAITH IN THE POLLS REPORTED BY THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA or anything else they report for that matter.

LIES:

I realize the politicians have been lying to voters for a number of years but I sure don't remember it being as prevalent at any time during my life as it is today. And, of course I believe that the Clintons and their followers along with Obama and his followers were the WORST of the lot. Oh yeah, I have heard all about Richard Nixon and his lies regarding Watergate but I absolutely do not think that his untruthfulness can come close to what we have seen coming out of Washington, D.C. for at least the past 20 or more years.

While George W. Bush was President, I watched the media crucify him at every turn and I pretty much supported him during this firs term as President. But somewhere along the way, he began to fall into the same pattern as most professional politicians.  I did always appreciate the way the George W. Bush and his family supported our Veterans and all of the members of the U.S. Military. And from what I have seen, he still does openly show that same support.

And for the ENTIRE 8 LONG YEARS of the OBAMA regime, President George W. Bush was a complete gentleman and did not criticize the Obama Administration for their absolutely criminal mishandling of many areas. BUT NOW, all of a sudden he has fallen in apparently with Obama and Bill Clinton in his open criticism of President Donald Trump and it appears as if he is in bed with the Clintons and the Obamas. I am very disappointed in his activities and one must wonder.... was he being untruthful with the American People THEN or is he being untruthful with us NOW?

Of course he would have to tell bald face LIES from now until the day he died to even be considered in the same league with the Clintons or the Obamas. I can still recall the scene at that airport when the bodies of the four Americans who were MURDERED by Islamic Terrorists in Benghazi and can remember both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton telling those families that the attack on the American Embassy was caused by some video which had been released on U-Tube or something along those lines. And don't know if I have EVER seen a worse case of LYING TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE than I did from ALL members of the Obama Administration after Benghazi.

Then, of course, we have President Barack Hussein Obama making statements to Iran and other nations threatening some type of action if they crossed one of his imaginary RED LINES. It seems as if those countries crossed his ultimatum lines just to see what he would do and he surprised NO ONE BY DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

But of course it is not only the Obamas and the Clintons who have turned out to be complete phonies and liars.  I give you John McCain.  He has lied to the people of Arizona and the rest of America for over 30 years. And yes, I along with many others was fooled by his act for awhile but back about 20 years ago when I saw him playing cozy with some real mutts from the Democrat/Progressive/Socialist/Marxist Party, I knew then that I had made a grievous error in my assessment of this man. Then when he openly claimed close friendship with "Fat Teddy", (that would be Senator Edward Kennedy-D-MA), I knew that McCain was a liar and a complete phony.

For many years as a kid and on up until our Grand Daughter was born, I and my family went to Arizona to visit my Aunt in Southeastern Arizona. I had some of the best times of my life in that area. My Uncle bought me my first .22 rifle one summer and the jackrabbit population began to dwindle in that area. Another kid, Jimmy Adams also had his first .22 rifle and we would pack some food and leave at sunup and come back at sundown after conducting some exploring expeditions. We found arrowheads and all kinds of Apache articles and U.S. Cavalry buttons and buckles and located some old Apache camp sites along the dried up San Simon River. Arizona is a great state and I feel for the full time citizens of Arizona for having the representation in the U.S. Senate of John McCain and Jeff Flake. AND YES, I did vote for John McCain in his bid for the Presidency in the General Election.... not in the Primary though. But it was a question on whether we got a terrible liar OR the WORST liar ever in politics. It was a question of voting for the one who lied the least..... but only marginally. And I saw earlier today where Jeff Flake stated before the Senate that he WOULD NOT SEEK re-election.  Of course his reason was that Donald Trump had made a mess of the Republican Party so he could not bear to continue on. ACTUALLY, I hope Donald Trump HAS in fact made trouble for the Republican Party but the Republican Party under the leadership of people like McCain and McConnell and Ryan and some others had already made a mess of the party themselves. So you are asking, Why Jim, are you saying that Senator Jeff Flake is also a LIAR?    YEP! You got it.

But please look at everyone who is close to either the Obamas or the Clintons and you will notice that they lie regularly about damn near everything. Now, of course, we have seen the mainstream news media (ALL FORMS) fall right in with the lying politicians. It seems as if finally finding an elected official who flat doesn't give a damn about who he insults, particularly in the political arena, has caught the country by surprise. I must admit that I was a bit surprised but I am pretty pleased with what President Trump is trying to accomplish. Of course anything he tries that does not make it through the House or the Senate will be made to look as if it was President Trump's fault. But, surprisingly enough, THE  NEWS  MEDIA IS LYING!

I received word this week of the death of a long time San Angelo Police Officer.  His name was Frank Powell. I have only known him for about 6 or so years and during that time I was able to see and talk with him on one morning a month at a Retired Police Officers Breakfast which was actually started for retired San Angelo Officers then later opened up to all retired Law Enforcement at every level from any department. I have met some of the nicest and most interesting people I have ever known at this monthly breakfast and Frank Powell was sure one of them. His career with the San Angelo P.D. spanned 32 years with Frank retiring as a Lieutenant.  I along with his many friends sadly observed Frank's health deteriorating over the past couple of years and he had been unable to make the monthly breakfasts for several months. Frank was a really big man physically but the man I knew was kind and very outgoing. Frank was really well liked by his peers and the community as a whole and he will be missed by many including me. Frank was 84 years old.

I read several communications this past week regarding the International Association of Chiefs of Police who evidently came out in favor of Police Departments throughout the county adopting a NEW POLICY RECOMMENDING THAT POLICE OFFICERS FIRE WARNING SHOTS  in serious situations.

In EVERY SINGLE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING CLASS THAT I ATTENDED FOR OVER 45 YEARS, I NEVER EVEN ONCE WAS INSTRUCTED TO USE DEADLY FORCE UNLESS

I  WAS IN FEAR FOR MY LIFE OR GREAT BODILY HARM OR THE LIFE OR GREAT BODILY HARM OF ANOTHER PERSON.  This was an ironclad rule AND in our firearms training we were taught to shoot at CENTER BODY MASS and to cease fire when we saw that the danger had ended. 

ADDITIONALLY we were taught that WARNING SHOTS were not only a BAD IDEA BUT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO OURSELVES OR OTHERS and in fact were forbidden by most Police Departments.

Most of the police shootings where I was present, occurred inside a city. Most occurred in populated areas and on or near paved streets or sidewalks. Somehow this little fact has escaped the keen observation of the IACP. I don't want to shoot into the air as the projectile (bullet) will according to the law of gravity have to fall back to earth and you have no idea where it will fall. OR if you shoot into the ground and you are on a paved area, the bullet will ricochet and you don't know where. If you are inside an apartment building or a motel and are on the first floor and you shoot up through the ceiling, people on the second story are in danger. If you are on a second story or higher, people on floors below you are in danger.

NOW here is the real rub:  If I am in danger and an Officer has decided that the situation warrants him/her drawing their weapon, I DO NOT WANT THEM TO HESITATE TO TAKE ACTION AND HAVE TO DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO FIRE A WARNING SHOT!  That is a completely ludicrous suggestion on the part of the IACP and I only hope that most departments will refuse to implement this idiotic policy.  POLITICAL CORRECTNESS WILL RESULT IN THE DEATHS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE.

Earlier today I heard over the radio of the death of another person whom was known by almost every teen ager in the country in the 1950s and 1960s. And that was the death of Mr. Antoine "Fats" Domino who died in New Orleans at age 89. I can assure you that every kid who grew up in the 50s and 60s has attended lots of dances and shows which featured the music of "The Fat Man." As I am writing this, I am looking over a few feet away where I have a four CD set of the music of Antoine "Fats" Domino along with a pamphlet on the life and music of Fats Domino... entitled "The Call Me The Fat Man."

I have seen "Fats" Domino live probably 16 or 17 times as he visited Houston all during the 50s and 60s and I bought every single record he released. He always put on a great show and I STILL LIKE HIS MUSIC. I grew up watching and listening to "Fats" Domino and Chuck Berry and I don't believe that the music of either of these men did me any harm and if you will listen to some statements made by Elvis Presley; The Beatles; The Rolling Stones and many other famous entertainers you will find them mentioning these two music icons.

Greetings once again from the Headquarters For Advanced Jingoistic Thinking For People Over Sixty Who Have Had Enough From Establishment Politicians.

HYPOCRISY:

Let me first say that as of the writing of this letter:

1)  I have NOT been sexually molested by Harvey Weinstein

2)  I have NOT watched any NFL games for the past several weeks

3)  I have NOT seen many true Conservative Politicians in either major political party

4)  I have NOT heard any valid reasons to support Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader

5)  I have NOT heard any valid reason to retain Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House

6)  I have NOT seen any valid reason to re-elect Jeff Flake as a U.S. Senator

7)  I have NOT seen a Confederate Statue attack one single black person

8)  I have NOT seen or heard a word of truth come from the mouth of Hillary Clinton

9)  I have NOT seen even a smidgen of truth come from any of the Hollywood Elites

OK. By now you have probably come to the conclusion that I also have NOT had my mind change by any of the goings on in Washington D.C. or Hollywood, California.  Also, I would like a show of hand from all of those who believe that the goings on involving Harvey Weinstein and female Hollywood actresses or those who were attempting to break into "Show-Biz" or be a major player in Democrat/Liberal/Socialist/Marxist politics.

I have heard several reports of Weinstein making heavy donations to the Clintons ( both of 'em) as well as making the maximum donation allowed to the Bill Clinton "Defense Fund" when he was facing the Lewinsky problems along with other rape allegations.

Now what I find as particularly HYPOCRITICAL on the part of many of the Hollywood Elites and many of the strong players in Democrat/Socialist/Progressive/Marxist politicians, is their claim that they had NO IDEA that "Good 'Ol" Harvey Weinstein was involved in any of those goings on until just the past week or so. I am pretty sure that their Hollywood careers were actually more important to them at the time than a little forced sex.

I also read one article regarding Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance. It seems as if District Attorney Vance has a bit of a history of either not charging or dismissing charges against high profile defendants. It seems that in 2011, French Socialist Party politician Dominique Strauss Kahn was indicted of the sexual assault and attempted rape of a maid at the hotel where Kahn had been staying. Kahn was pulled off an airplane which would have taken him to Paris. After Kahn was indicted Vance recommended that the charges be dismissed due to his doubts of the maid's credibility. AH, but that's not all. In 2015, Vance made the decision not to charge Harvey Weinstein with groping Italian actress Ambra Battilana Guiterrez.  According to Vance's office, the NYPD Investigators arranged for a "controlled call" between Guiterrez and Weinstein without the knowledge or input of Vance's office. According to Vance's office, the District Attorney's had been unable to COUNSEL the NYPD Investigators on what was necessary ... to prove a misdemeanor sex crime.  Now this is not the same as saying that the call initiated by NYPD Investigators did not meet the standards, but simply that Vance's Office had been unable to COUNSEL the Investigators.

SO, I would have to say that the Manhattan District Attorney has pretty well shown his HYPOCRITICAL behavior regarding Harvey Weinstein..... Wonder what else he is trying to hide?  ALSO, the New York Times has cited a linkage between Vance's decision not to indict Weinstein and donations by two of his lawyers WITH TIES TO MR. VANCE. The Times pointed out that one of Weinstein's attorneys had been Vance's law partner decades before.

I will make a prediction that, regardless of any charges which may be instigated against Weinstein and regardless of the reports that his wife has left him, in the end, nothing serious will happen to Harvey Weinstein. As soon as the new wears off, Harvey will more than likely come out and fess up to some misbehavior on his part and will reveal that he has taken some counseling and has the problem in hand and he will be once again in good graces with the Hollywood HYPOCRITES as well as the HYPOCRITICAL CLINTONS and the HYPOCRITICAL Democrats/Progressives/Socialists/Marxists.

NOW, since I have sworn off the NFL, I will try to maintain this as an NFL FREE ZONE. Of course I feel as if I have the right to criticize them when I see them feeding us a bunch of crap and trying to make us believe it is peach ice cream.  The NFL players who are allegedly NOT protesting our National Anthem or our Flag are pretty close to the top of the list of HYPOCRITICALS.

And possibly the most HYPOCRITICAL bunch of people in our country at present (other than our elected officials at the national level) are the GUN CONTROL ADVOCATES. I shall never be able to understand how people, many of whom have NEVER HELD A FIREARM MUCH LESS FIRED ONE think they should be believed when they spout off their tripe about how gun control reduces crime and about how much SAFER we would all be if we were unarmed and ONLY THE GOVERNMENT WAS ARMED. Keep in mind that most of the politicians who want strict gun control have Security Details that are... guess what.... ARMED WITH FIREARMS.

MAJORITY:

I have had a real belly full of hearing about how we have a Republican MAJORITY in the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives. Yes there are more elected professional politicians who claim to be Republican currently holding the offices of Senator and Representative BUT when you have so called Republicans like;

With just a slight so called MAJORITY in the U.S. Senate it only takes a few so called Republicans to jump ship to totally screw up a necessary piece of legislation. Of course there is a greater so called Republican MAJORITY in the U.S. House of Representatives, so the turncoats in the House do not cause quite as many problems. Of course I have NEVER had any use for Susan Collins but at one time I thought that John McCain was OK... but .... that was years ago. Also at one time I voted FOR John Cornyn but I don't think I can vote for him again in a primary in which he has an opponent.  After the death of "Fat Teddy" (Senator Edward Kennedy) I lost any respect I ever had for Orrin Hatch and John McCain. Of course McCain had already shown his true colors by that time but I sure thought Hatch was OK. I know that it is impolite to speak ill of the departed BUT, in the case of "Fat Teddy", that rule does not apply.  AND I have a real problem with anyone who professes to have been close friends with someone of his highly questionable character.

Once again all this shows is that there is precious little difference in your Republican and Democrat professional politician. Of course the Leadership in both the House and the Senate is absent. 

BUT the point is that many are laboring under the false premise that the Republican Party holds a clear MAJORITY in the U.S. Senate.... It just simply isn't so.  They are damn near ALL Washington Insiders and in my opinion there should be a bounty on them like the varmints they are.

Here in San Angelo there is a place called "The Chicken Farm"... NO it isn't the Chicken Ranch made famous in the movie "The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas."  The "Chicken Farm" is a place where people gather on the first Saturday of each month to sell various crafts and food. Most of the crafts are hand made by the folks who are selling them. As I told you last week, we had a young lady (our God Daughter) come and visit us for a week from S. Korea.  The "Chicken Farm" was one of the places she wished to visit so we took off and actually arrived just as it opened before there was a large crowd.

Also at this location are a bunch of chairs placed in a circular pattern and local musicians come to play and sing and of course we always enjoy them. When we got there only one old gentleman was by himself sitting there picking some really great songs on his Gibson Dove guitar. This old gentleman I believe could play any kind of music on that guitar and make it enjoyable. He was very thin, bald headed and had a really great looking white handlebar mustache and after about a half hour was joined by a younger guy who looked like maybe he was in his 50s who played a dobro guitar and he was also super talented. We watched those two guys for about an hour and they played everything from bluegrass (Flatt & Scruggs, Doc Watson, Bill Monroe to Merle Travis & Chet Atkins to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters and the older guy even finger picked out a little Glenn Miller's Pennsylvania Six- Five Thousand. At one point they sang an old song that was a hit in the late 1940s or early 1950s, a duet sung by Kay Starr and Ernie Ford. I have not heard that song in years and I still like it. I think the title is,, "I'll Never Be Free." I absolutely could have sat there all day and listened to those two guys. There is not much modern music that I care for these days and what they are trying to pass off as Country and Western could be flushed down the toilet and no one would care.

I have to thank our God Daughter, Miss Heesun Do, for making the suggestion that we go to the "Chicken Farm" and my wife and I have promised ourselves that we will try to make it every month from now on. I don't care all that much for the crafts but the music is hard to beat.

I read an article a couple of days back in the (Sub) Standard Times regarding some police departments who were testing GUN CAMERAS on the handguns carried by their officers. It had a photo of one semi-automatic handgun with a bulky looking thing attached to the frame below the barrel. Now I understand the thinking that having a camera attached to the officers' sidearm could perhaps in some instances show pretty much what the officers see as they are pointing their weapon at an offender. This is all well and good, just like the body cameras or the dash cameras in most of today's patrol cars. BUT, I for one do not care to have some extra piece of equipment attached to the underside of the frame of my sidearm.  It seems to me as if the departments and of course the media are more interested in video evidence for various court proceedings than they are about the safety of the officer who is in a shooting situation. Once again, I do not know just exactly how the camera on the weapon is turned on. One of the ways according to the article that cameras attached to 'stun guns' are activated when the safety switches are turned off.

OK, what happens when the officer is carrying a Glock; a Sig Sauer; a S & W M & P; or a Ruger American, most of which DO NOT HAVE A SAFETY SWITCH. Will the officer have to be concerned with turning on a camera prior to protecting himself or another person? I for one, and I am speaking from first hand experience, do not want to have to be concerned with anything other than protecting myself; my family; or another person whose life is in danger. If the gun control idiots and the department brass wish all of my movements to be preserved on film... then they should plan on having a camera crew follow me around. That might not be a bad idea as it would probably force me to clean up my language which can be a bit course on occasion. ALSO, what about an officer or deputy who still carries a revolver? I don't see how these gun cameras will work with them.  ALSO, if I am in a shooting situation, I do not want ANYTHING that can alter the weight of my firearm or make it overly unbalanced..... Just sell the local governments on my idea of camera crews.

GIRLS ALLOWED IN THE BOY SCOUTS?  I don't think so. But apparently my thoughts carry little weight with the Boy Scouts of America since last Wednesday they made an announcement that the Boy Scouts of America Is now open to girls who will also be permitted to join the Cub Scouts.  SO, what happens to the Girl Scouts and the Brownies or Campfire Girls or whatever the organizations are now called for young girls?

The article I read questioned whether this was a stunt to increase membership roles OR simply another cowardly attempt to pacify the LEFT? If this is the case then lets just do away with Girls... Basketball; Track; Swimming; Volleyball; Softball; Gymnastics; Tennis; and have them compete in one OPEN GENDER ATHLETIC PROGRAM. BUT be careful what you wish for. Keep this in mind. In track and field the Women's record for the 100 meter dash is 10.49 seconds... the Men's record is 9.58 seconds, which means that the fastest woman could not place in a man's race.  Now let's look at the mile.  Women's record is 4:18.71 and the Men's is 3:43.13 which is a huge difference. Let's face it, there are some physical differences in the sexes and regardless of what the Liberals/Democrats/Socialists try to push they cannot make them THE SAME.... Nor do I want them to be the same. The men's gymnastic events are quite different from the women's. I don't mean they are better.... just different. And I think the women gymnasts are way more fun to watch. Some of their events are infinitely more graceful than the men's events. Some of the men's events take greater upper body strength and that is one of the differences.... not the main one mind you but a major difference. BUT the bottom line is this:

GIRLS HAVE NO BUSINESS IN THE BOY SCOUTS.... AND ...... BOYS HAVE NO BUSINESS IN THE GIRL SCOUTS... THE END!

PRIOR TO HILLARY BEING INTERVIEWED AND PRIOR TO THE CONCLUSION OF THE INVESTIGATION.  A bit strange to say the least.

CONVERSATION:

If I hear one more politician open their mouth to tell the American that "We need to have a CONVERSATION about this" I think I might burst into flames like Michael Jackson in a Pepsi commercial.

Ever since the Las Vegas mass murders, the professional politicians from BOTH PARTIES have talked about "Having A CONVERSATION" about gun control issues.  All I have heard on the subject of gun control for a great many years is "CONVERSATION" with the real Conservatives supporting the Second Amendment and every damn Liberal/Democrat/Marxist whining about everything from "automatic weapons" ( when they actually mean semi-automatic) but it is of very little consequence since practically NONE of the liberal vermin really know the difference. I heard someone on some radio show talking very authoritatively about the difference in trigger pulls on semi-automatic handguns and revolvers. Of course this boob said that revolvers were the kinds of handguns carried by the cowboys. One must wonder if he were talking about the Dallas Cowboys or perhaps an individual who worked from horseback on a ranch. He obviously had no idea of the difference in a "Single Action Pistol" and a "Double Action Pistol" and he knew even less about "Semi-Automatic Pistols" which came as no surprise to me. And I don't believe from hearing him that he was anti-Second Amendment. He just didn't know "come here" from "sic-em" about handguns. And I strongly suspect that he didn't know horse crap from apple butter about any shoulder weapon.

I can almost assure you that NONE of the mainstream media had a clue about the now infamous "BUMP-STOCKS".  I knew what they were but have never personally fired one and really don't care to own one. From listening to people who have the damn things, all I know is that your accuracy is seriously damaged using one of these stocks on a semi automatic rifle. To me, accuracy is the single most important thing in firing any weapon.  I was always able to qualify with any handgun I carried but I was by no means as good with a pistol as a number of folks with whom I worked.  I had the pleasure of working with some really top pistol shots. Some of them are still alive but a few of them have passed away. In 1958 in the Houston Police Academy we had one cadet who shot the center out of every target I saw him shoot.  He had been on a pistol team in the Military and I could sure see why.

But I worked with several departments and in New Mexico I saw some of the best handgun shooters I have ever seen. Several of them are still alive and kicking. And I don't think I ever knew a U.S. Border Patrol Agent who was not an exceptional pistol shot.

BUT back to the total ignorance of the media and the Democrats/Progressives/Marxists AND quite a few of the professional Republican rats about firearms in general, once they heard the term "BUMP-STOCK" that is all they could talk about and were actually trying to convince the American public that these "BUMP-STOCKS" were the reason that the death toll and injuries were so massive in the Las Vegas shooting. NOT ONCE, did I hear any of these elected mutts speak of the fact that it was the BEHAVIOR OF THE SHOOTER that was the real cause of so many deaths.

AND of course these liberal vermin right away began to scream about "UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS."  Now I don't know how we are going to check to see if someone who has purchased a weapon has been handled on Jupiter or Pluto.. and they are part of our solar system which is part of the Milky Way Galaxy, which is a small part of the Universe.  You see, prior to purchasing a firearm from ANY licensed dealer you must undergo a background check conducted through the NICS which is located at the F.B.I. Criminal Justice Information Services division which is located in Clarksburg, West Virginia.  NOW, I have purchased firearms at gun shows and if the merchant at any Gun Show holds a Federal Firearms License, you must undergo this background check which is done in minutes via computer and is able to be done 24 hours a day. This is much faster than the old way in which a dealer had to contact the F.B.I. via telephone and perhaps wait a few days for an answer. The way it is done today is almost instantaneous. I guess that this is just to fast for the elected idiots. I have never purchased a firearm at a Gun Show where I did not have to fill out a BATFE Form and wait while the background check was being conducted. I'm quite sure that the check was more than likely limited to the United States since that is where I live and where I purchased the firearm.

Please don't be caught up in the left wing idiocy of UNIVERSAL Background Checks. I know it sounds good but it is pure bullshit. BUT still the Marxists want to "HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT COMPREHENSIVE FIREARMS LEGISLATION."  There's that word COMPREHENSIVE again. Then when asked about just exactly what kind of law would have prevented this deranged turd from shooting all those people?  Even Diane Feinstein could not think of a law which would have prevented the act.
OK, now let me explain something once again so that the Liberals/Democrats/Progressives/Marxists can understand (as if they really wanted to);  Nevada along with every other state in the United States of America have laws AGAINST  MURDER.  Most convictions for MURDER carry the heavies penalty of any crime in each state AND the federal government.  SO, if someone is going to risk the DEATH PENALTY or LIFE IN PRISON WITH NO PAROLE for MURDER, how much more severe can you get? If they are going to commit the most horrible crime around, how can some idiotic COMPREHENSIVE Gun Control legislation make any difference in the act? ANSWER:  IT WON'T!

But also keep in mind that these mindless idiots who want to "HAVE A CONVERSATION" about Gun Control will also be the same left wing folks who also want to "HAVE A CONVERSATION" about racial issues.  Funny, but I seem to remember that "HAVING CONVERSATIONS" on both of these subjects has been going on for years and nothing has been solved as of the writing of this letter. AND the CONVERSATIONS on race have been going on since I was in high school in the 50s. I guess my point to the Liberals/Progressives/Democrats/Marxists/Establishment Republicans is this: I would be willing to have a conversation with you on firearms legislation, or anything else, the instant you give me some sign that you have even the slightest idea that you know what in the hell you are talking about. Till then.. Shove It!

BEING FIRST:

I seem to remember that the first actor I saw who REFUSED to accept his Academy Award was George C. Scott.  Then a few years later Marlon Brando had some "Indigenous Person" dressed in "Indigenous Person" garb come to the podium and refuse to accept his Academy Award.  While I always though Marlon Brando was a superior actor and I liked many of his movies, his refusal to accept the award for best actor sort of fell flat. Why? Because it had already been done by George C. Scott. 

I can also remember the very first Perfect Game of Baseball I ever saw pitched and that was Don Larsen in a World Series Game.  There have been some other Perfect Games pitched but none in a World Series. I'm sure that at some point in time another pitcher will also pitch a Perfect World Series Game.... BUT Don Larsen was THE FIRST in 1956.

Then years ago when tennis players at pretty well every level acted like ladies and gentlemen, enter Ilie Nastase, the Romanian bad boy. He was obnoxious at practically every match and tried to intimidate his opponents and the officials as well. He was the first tennis player I saw scream at everyone including the crowd and throw temper tantrums. Then years later, enter John McEnroe who also was a screamer.. BUT.. I never really paid him much attention since he was not THE FIRST tennis player to act like an ass. Nor has he been the last.

I seem to think that athletes are sometimes the biggest copycats on the planet like I have said before, Homer Jones, wide receiver for the N.Y. Giants was THE FIRST player to spike the ball. It was different and a bit unusual but now all the idiotic celebrations in the end zone for doing what you are paid a very high salary to do seems a bit much to me.

NOW, let us speak of the latest copycat idiots. I know that Colin Kaepernick claimed that he SAT not kneeled during the National Anthem to allegedly PROTEST racial bias and unfair treatment of blacks by the police. OK, if that is what you want to believe, then go right ahead. I will still contend that the real reason why Colin Kaepernick did his disrespect for our National Anthem had nothing to do with mistreatment of blacks by the police.  Colin Kaepernick for several years had been the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers.  Then, he got beat out for the position and he was upset about not being the starter and I will contend that he was just showing his selfishness for his being reduced to a backup role and did it to draw attention to himself.  He not only didn't get his starting job back, he got cut from the team and it appears that NO TEAM is presently interested in his services........ SO, now the rest of the teams in the league due to some really poor leadership at the NFL League level;  The NFL Owner's level; and the NFL Head Coach's level have allowed their overpaid whiners to join in SOLIDARITY with Colin Kaepernick. Good luck. I have put away all of my NFL caps and shirts and have no intention of wearing them again unless the NFL front office and the NFL owners grow a set of balls and show these million dollar crybabies who really runs the teams. I also believe that the NFL Player's Union is a big factor in this whole issue. I am sure that the Owners and the League do not want to lose money or viewers BUT THEY ALREADY ARE.

I have replaced my Denver Broncos cap with a cap honoring the 3 in a row Class 2A Texas Champion Bremond Tigers.  I have replaced my New England Patriot cap with a cap honoring the many time New Mexico State Champion Artesia Bulldogs. I have replaced my Dallas Cowboy caps with my cap honoring the Itasca Wampus Cats.  I have replaced my Chicago Bears cap with one from the Knippa Rock Crushers. And I have a hell of a lot more Texas and New Mexico High School caps than I do anything from the NFL. I can remember an old NFL film clip that showed former Atlanta Falcon head coach Jerry Glanville telling a new NFL official that the initials NFL meant NOT FOR LONG if he kept making those kinds of calls.  Well that is what the NFL means to me.... NOT FOR LONG.

I don't know about the rest of you but on October 9th, I celebrated COLUMBUS DAY... NOT Indigenous People's Day. Of course many who celebrate Indigenous People's Day haven't the slightest idea of the meaning of the word...indigenous.  According to my huge Webster's Encyclopedic Dictionary, the word indigenous means: born, growing, or originating in the locality.  SO, with that definition in mind.... I am an INDIGENOUS PERSON.  I was BORN in Freestone County, Texas.  I GREW UP in Houston, Texas. I ORIGINATED in the State of Texas.  SO, I am an INDIGENOUS PERSON.

Once again, I am so damn sick of the Liberals/Socialists/Democrats in particular continuing to drive a wedge between people of different races, languages, religions, sexes, and countries. I watched one female who stated that she was a member of the Sioux Tribe and lived I believe in S. Dakota speaking at length about how Christopher Columbus had mistreated... yes... even murdered her people.

FUNNY, but I don't seem to remember reading in any book or magazine any account of Christopher Columbus making it quite to S. Dakota.  As a matter of fact, I seem to remember reading that they are not 100% sure of the original landing place of Christopher Columbus in his first voyage. But from whit I remember reading that his original landing spot was probably Watling Island in the Bahamas. On some of his other voyages he supposedly landed in Cuba and explored Puerto Rico, Jamaica and other smaller Caribbean Islands. I read one account where he also did land explore what is today Venezuela.

Now I do not claim to know just exactly what kind of person Christopher Columbus actually was but I do know that his voyages and his discoveries obviously opened the door for other explorers from other European countries to make numerous voyages and explorations of the West Indies, North America and South America. However I have never read any account of Christopher Columbus getting quite to the border of S. Dakota.  Am I saying that this alleged Sioux Maiden was wrong?  As William F. Buckley would have said, "She is not only wrong... she was fastidiously wrong." And in my opinion trending toward being about half stupid.

In any event, the Liberals/Democrats/Socialists/Marxists will not be satisfied until they re-write the History of the United States and the World. I, on the other hand am of the opinion that history should be un-edited and left alone.

A couple of weeks back, the starting quarterback for our local San Angelo Central Bobcats was chosen as the "Built Ford Tough High School Player of the Week." This young man is only a Junior led his team to a come-from-behind 52 -42 win against Kilgore Shoemaker High School.  His passing statistics in that game were 21 for 27 for 237 yards and FIVE TOUCHDOWNS. Additionally he rushed for 207 yards and ONE TOUCHDOWN.  Not through yet as he also caught ONE TOUCHDOWN PASS. So he had a direct hand in SEVEN TOUCHDOWNS in that one game. Oh, and he sports a 3.9 GPA (for those of you residing in the People's Republic of San Francisco that is Grade Point Average).  In any event this really appears to be a fine young man perhaps with a future in major college football in his future..... Oh, and his Dad is a former starting quarterback for the University of Texas.

Also relating to football, I read this morning where former Baltimore Colt, San Francisco 49er and N.Y. Giant Quarterback Ylberton Abraham (Y.A.) Tittle died at age 90. I was fortunate enough to be able to watch him play for those teams when he was in his prime. I always liked him and he could pick you apart. He also played prior to the days of facemasks and high salaries of today's players.  There is a very famous photo of Y.A. Tittle on his knees bleeding from the face. He had been knocked around pretty good and was hurt on that play suffering a concussion and cracked sternum due to a hit from John Baker of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played his college ball at L.S.U. and I am pretty sure I remember seeing him play in a college game in Houston.

As I stated earlier, I have sworn off the NFL but I did read in the paper this morning where Houston Texan defensive end J.J. Watt is lost for the season. J.J. Watt is a class act and really did a heck of a job in fund raising for the flood victims of Hurricane Harvey. Sorry to See him injured.

I read somewhere this week that the NFL League Minimum Salary is $420,000.00 per year.  The Average Salary is $2.1 Million per year.  While most attended college on scholarships only 41% receive a degree.  Approximately 78% of the retired NFL players are broke or struggling financially within 2 years of retirement.  To me this is a pretty strong indication of financial irresponsibility and are not the people I want my Grand Children and Great Grandchildren to look to as role models.

Also this morning on the news I heard that NFL Commissioner is finally "Taking A Stand" on the National Anthem issue.  He issued a letter to all teams. Now, here is how gutless the NFL Commissioner is. ALL he did was repeat the EXISTING NFL Policy regarding STANDING FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.  His tough letter said that the players SHOULD stand for the National Anthem... SHOULD....not SHALL. So in reality, Roger Goodell did nothing but repeat the existing NFL policy.

Greetings once more from The West Texas Xenophobic Jingoistic Draconian Supporters of the Second Amendment.

SHOOTING:

Like the rest of the country, on Monday I morning learned of the shooting in Las Vegas which resulted in the death of 59 people and the wounding of over 500 people by a sniper in a hotel room.

OF COURSE, almost immediately the Democrats/Socialists came out urging for everyone to not try to POLITICIZE the incident and almost immediately Democrats/Socialists in the form of Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, and Joseph Biden began to do just what they had urged others to NOT DO. I am pretty sure that Biden having served in the U.S. Military has some idea about firearms but I would suspect that neither Hillary Clinton nor Elizabeth Warren have a clue about firearms or much of anything else. Almost IMMEDIATELY, Hillary sent out a tweet or something of that nature asking this insightful question: What if the shooter had a SILENCER? Just think of how many more would have been killed? When will the people begin fighting the NRA? From these idiotic questions, I can already surmise that Ms. Clinton knows as much about silenced firearms as she does about nuclear fission. And of course, not to be outdone, Tom Brokaw had to open his mouth and show how totally clueless he is regarding firearms and firearms laws. Brokaw made the statement that he thought that it was illegal for a civilian to own a fully automatic weapon. Yes Tom, that is correct, unless of course the civilian has made application and paid the required fee to the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives) and been approved. In which case any citizen who does these things and is qualified to own a non restricted firearm can LEGALLY OWN A FULLY AUTOMATIC WEAPON. ALSO, for the benefit of Ms. Clinton and Ms. Warren and Mr. Brokaw, as I understand it, the fully automatic weapons used by this shooter were not manufactured as fully automatic weapons but rather had been ALTERED to fire fully automatic. I have seen this done and of course if it is not done with the approval of the BATFE then the weapon is ILLEGAL.

Which makes it necessary, once again, to point out to these gun control idiots the fact that:

This shooter murdered 59 people.

This shooter shot and wounded over 500 people.

SO, I need Ms. Clinton or Ms. Warren or Mr. Brokaw or former Vice President Biden to explain to me just exactly what kind of gun control laws could or would have prevented this mass murder? If I am going to kill as many people as possible in a very short time using whatever weapon I choose, why would a law prohibiting me possessing that weapon make me less likely to kill those people?

Now let us address the area of Ms. Clinton mentioning SILENCERS and the NRA almost immediately after the shooting. Ms. Clinton just wondered how much worse things would have been had the sniper used weapons with SILENCERS on them.

First of all, I have fired a number of firearms which were equipped with NOISE SUPPRESSORS. I never found a single one, particularly on a high powered rifle that actually SILENCED the round being fired. Some of them did reduce the noise but did not silence the weapon. I think Ms. Clinton has watched way too many movies where the weapons make no noise at all and believes that all, so called SILENCERS operate in that manner. NOW, I have never fired personally an "Assault Rifle" such as an AR-15 or an AK-47 but have taken part in some SWAT Exercises where suppressors were provided for those type weapons and once again they did reduce the noise but DID NOT SILENCE it as is shown in the movies.

I am equally sure that our Military has some NOISE SUPPRESSORS which more than likely do a pretty good job of reducing the sound but I have not personally seen one. I had a friend in Houston who had a fully automatic Remington rifle in a .22 short caliber which was equipped with a FACTORY SILENCER. As I understood it, this particular weapon at one time was issued to members of the Secret Service. My friend had all of the proper paper work and all of the federal licenses which made possession of this weapon legal. I have shot this weapon on several occasions and it was the closest I have ever seen of any rifle or handgun being almost impossible to hear fired.... ALMOST. In fact from what I have observed, a SILENCER works best on a handgun firing Sub-Sonic ammunition. (For the benefit of the twinkies who live in abject terror of firearms, that would be the projectile leaving the barrel of the firearm at less than the speed of sound which is roughly 1125 feet per second or 767 miles per hour) Any projectile traveling at a higher rate of speed would decrease the performance of the Silencer. AND it is my understanding that the weapons used by this murderer were .223 caliber traveling at over 3000 feet per second. Feel free to do the math.

But once again, the Liberals/Progressives/Democrats/Socialists/Marxists and other Professional Politicians and of course the MEDIA have shown not only their ignorance in firearms but their ignorance in criminal behavior as well. It IS NOT THE FAULT of the Firearm or the Manufacturer of the firearm or the ammunition that caused the deaths of these people. It is however, the fault of the person who pulled the trigger but let's not be bothered with facts when there is a crisis of which these vermin can take advantage and follow the instructions of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WASTE.

One thing that I do know for sure is that the Investigators have a crime scene that is spread out over a large area and gathering evidence from these crime scenes is an absolute nightmare. I also know that after the evidence is gathered it must be categorized and analyzed and witnesses interviewed and security tapes reviewed and this cannot be done in order to meet some arbitrary deadline of some idiot reporter. And there are some questions which may never be answered.

AND there is one other thing that I know for sure. Being shot at is a horrible experience. Being shot at and hit is even more horrifying. I also know that Police on the scene along with just everyday citizens, stepped up and probably saved a lot of lives. I heard one girl on a radio program tell of a man, whom she did not know, grabbing she and her girlfriend and putting them on the ground and lying on top of them to protect them. The man ended up shot in the back and was killed. I know that many people ran to get away, which wasn't all that bad of a move. Other got down or sought shelter. Many were trying to help others get to a place of safety. I don't know of any that just "Took A Knee" which seems to be acceptable today.

I also know that despite what you may have read or seen in movies or television, even if you are armed, when someone is shooting at you, the very first thing you think of is to get something between you and the shooter or else making yourself a smaller target. This might be occurring while you are drawing your weapon or it may occur when you are returning fire but seeking some type protection is the very first thing you think of. It might happen in fractions of a second but it happens.

But if Hillary and Brokaw have decided that life is just one huge James Bond film then so be it. BUT life is not that way nor do things always happen like they do in the movies.

LINEUP:

With Autumn arriving, we are now subjected to the NEW FALL LINEUP of television programming as well as the new movies being released. I think that the last movie to be released that my wife and I actually went to the theater to see was "GRAN TORINO" which was one of Clint Eastwood's best. Let's see now, GRAN TORINO was released in 2008 so that is the last time that my wife and I have been to a movie theater. I have been several other times taking my Grandkids and Great Grandkids to see movies made for kids, which in many instances make more sense than the so called blockbuster hits which are promoted by the Hollywood elites.

For the past several years, I have not viewed a regular television program that I thought was worthwhile other than "Blue Bloods" which I like very much. Of course the main star of that series is Tom Selleck who I really like. I loved his "Jesse Stone" series which is shown many times on Sundays and last all day. I am particularly fond of those now that the NFL is on my "Things Not To Watch" list.

But apparently insofar as television is concerned, unless the cast is one which is; Multi Racial/Multi Sexual/Multi Stupid or has flesh eating zombies, there are just not many new ideas in television programming. OH, and I forgot that this season some type of evil killer clown is also a popular item. One would think that the recent poor ratings of the Academy Awards and the Emmy programs that perhaps the movie and television industries might get a clue that the American public is growing weary of their products. But they keep putting out pure crap and this is why the written word has replaced them for me.

Even the History Channel and some of the National Geographic programs are falling into this category. I can only watch a limited number of Black Mambas being removed from mud huts in South Africa by that dude and his girlfriend with multi-colored hair. And for some reason just like the Pawn Stars and Ice Road Truckers and the Veterinarian shows, those networks seem to believe that about 6 or 8 hours straight of pretty much the same thing will hold the attention of the viewers.

BUT, acting has been replaced with SPECIAL EFFECTS. Animation has been replaced with computer generation. I have always been told that if you want to tell the difference in GOOD animation and POOR animation, as you watch a cartoon..... turn off the sound. You will still get the gist that when Wile E. Coyote opens up a box containing "One Acme Wildcat" that Wile E. is in for a good mauling. It is action over dialogue, which in a cartoon is a desirable.

Let's face it.... Hollywood along with the TV Industry has RUN OUT OF IDEAS and is rapidly running out of good performers.

I won't even get into the insulting television commercials to which we are being subjected. Someone should tell Budweiser that people really liked their commercials using the Clydesdales and other animals. Someone should tell Miller Light that their old commercials using retired athletes and other famous people is really missed by the viewing public. But it seems that insulting our intelligence is the NEW formula for selling products.

SO, I am loading up on reading material. Movie and TV entertainment are headed downhill rather rapidly.

I am sure that Hugh Hefner's death affected lots of people. I never cared for "Hef" and I remember when Playboy Magazine first hit the stands, my Dad owned a store which also sold books and magazines. I can remember that my Dad did not care to sell that particular magazine and they went back to the distributor. I also remember that the stores which did sell the magazine had to keep them out of sight and sold them to ADULTS ONLY and only upon request.

I also remember one particular thing about "Hef" which was an appearance on one of the late night talk shows which also had William F. Buckley Jr. as a guest. I cannot remember the exact conversation but it ended with a typical William F. Buckley statement which pissed off "Hef" and also showed that he had brought a tennis racquet to a gun fight and they cut to a commercial and when they returned, "Hef" was no longer on the screen. That pretty well told me all I needed to know about Hugh Hefner. When he thought he had the ability to cross verbal swords with William F. Buckley Jr., his I.Q. and sanity came into question.

For the past couple of days we have had a house guest. Our God Daughter from S. Korea is here for a visit. She has graduated from college and has a good job with a company located in her home town of Suwon City. She is a highly intelligent young lady and like all of the other S. Korean students whom we have known over the past 7 years, is of very high character. Dealing with those Korean students made me realize that here in 2017, although they are much more technologically advanced than we were, their behavior reminds me of American kids in the 1950s. They are very respectful toward all older people and are very family oriented. They are a pleasure to be around and

One last item on the Las Vegas shooting.

Some CBS Employee named Hayley Geftman-Gold wrote on Facebook the following:

"I'm actually not even sympathetic because country music fans often are Republican gun toters."

Here statement, surprisingly enough, got her fired from her post as a legal executive with CBS. Of course, CBS fired her for business reasons despite their statement of:

"This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS."
